Book Review: Summer Spark

Book Review:

Summer Spark: A Contemporary Romance Novella (Four Seasons Serial Book 1)

Ginnie Carmichael

Blurb:

Desperate to keep her teenage daughter from running with the wrong crowd again, Elsie Anderson makes the painful decision to leave Seattle for good. For her, solitude is a small price to pay for keeping Sophie out of trouble. Love is the last thing on Elsie’s mind, especially in a small town like Smithfield, Virginia.

Alex Becker is the star of Smithfield's firefighting department. He may be a hero, but at night he sees a broken man in the mirror. There was a time when he believed in love, but that all disappeared after he unexpectedly lost his wife late last year.

They both need a second chance at love. Will Elsie be able to overcome her fear of getting another broken heart? Will Alex ever be able to love again?

Overall:

This short story is a great introduction to Ginnie Carmichael's contemporary romance novella. This book is entertaining and is a great short fun read that a reader can easily finish in a day. The characters are developed and each bring to the story the necessary parts that create a realistic love story. I really liked the main character Elsie, the author really made her a believable and likeable character from the beginning.

I would have liked this book to be a lot longer than it was considering the total amount of pages is: 66 it ended right as things got good. I'm sure the author knows that the book was relatively short which makes a great introduction to her series however I would have liked to see more of the characters and see where the story is going before committing to another romance series.

Story:

The story is well written, I liked the pace that it was going even though it felt like it was abruptly cut off at the end. Both characters seem compatible with each other unlike many other stories that annoy you because you can see how wrong both characters are for each other. The sudden flow of their meetings/encounter gives you a 'feel good' feeling making it easier to enjoy.

Rating:
☆ 4/5
I really liked it

Recommend for a quick, fun read

  1. I'm not entirely sure I'd read a book that's abruptly cut off at the end. I mean obviously, if it's 66 pages long then it's a novella, but abrupt endings are a definite no-no for me ;( But, I'm glad you liked it <33

  2. Hi!! :D you know I was hesitant in the beginning thinking "god this isn't going to go anywhere" however it was a fun short read kept me distracted for like an hour and I throughly liked the author's writing style. It really is more of an introduction to readers rather than an actual first novel. Try it out see if you like it :)
